Motus – May 2026 Update

May 2026 Update

We’ve begun tagging!

Kevin Ellison from American Bird Conservancy and Lou Ann Harris, our Bluebird Trail Lead, were able to tag three female Mountain Bluebirds along the Sacajawea Audubon Bluebird Trail. Lou Ann scouted the trail the day before to see what boxes were active with eggs. She did not want to disturb any boxes that had nestlings. From there, Kevin showed Lou Ann how to fit the harness onto the birds. These are the first Mountain Bluebirds to be tagged in the Motus System. Currently, the birds are north of our towers and are not within tracking range.

The next day Kevin went out to Headwaters State Park with a MSU grad student and they were able to tag a Western Meadowlark. This bird is being tracked by the Headwaters Tower, and so far the bird remains in the area.
