Our History

The Sacajawea Audubon Society

For over fifty years, our members have worked to protect native bird populations, restore vital habitats, and educate the community about conservation. Through local initiatives, citizen science projects, and volunteer efforts, we continue to foster a connection between people and the natural world, ensuring that birds and wildlife thrive for generations to come.

Founded in 1967

The Sacajawea Audubon Society promotes the conservation and appreciation of birds and their habitats in the Yellowstone region. Since its inception, the organization has worked to connect people with nature through education, citizen science, and community engagement.

Over the years, the Society has grown from a small group of local bird enthusiasts into a well-recognized chapter that collaborates with schools, landowners, and other conservation organizations. Its efforts include protecting native bird populations, restoring habitat, and raising awareness about environmental issues affecting local ecosystems.

Through programs like birdwatching outings, habitat restoration projects, and educational workshops, the Sacajawea Audubon Society continues to inspire stewardship of the natural world and foster a deeper understanding of the region’s avian diversity.
