Our Mission

The Sacajawea Audubon Society

We are a grassroots, all volunteer Audubon chapter that is a 5013C non profit organization. We represent all of Gallatin and Madison Counties as well as the Pintler Region of Montana.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Sacajawea Audubon Society is to build on an interest in birds to promote the conservation of our natural environment through enjoyment, education, and action.

Our Mission in Action

Our mission is guided by three core commitments:

Enjoyment – Fostering appreciation of birds and wildlife through guided field trips, bird walks, and community events.

Education – Offering talks, youth programs, citizen science projects, and workshops that connect people of all ages with the natural world.

Action – Leading conservation initiatives that protect birds, restore habitat, and safeguard the landscapes we share.

What Makes Us Unique

All-volunteer powered – Every program, event, and project is driven by passionate community members.

Locally focused – We care for the rivers, valleys, and mountains of southwest Montana.

Connected – As a chapter of the National Audubon Society, our work contributes to a broader movement for birds and people.

Our Conservation Work

We focus our efforts on protecting bird populations and the habitats they depend on. Some of our ongoing priorities include:

Native habitat restoration – From wetlands to grasslands, we restore landscapes that provide food and shelter for wildlife.

Migration monitoring – Volunteers track raptors and songbirds during key migration windows to support science-based conservation.

Community science – Annual events like the Christmas Bird Count and Birdathon empower everyday birders to contribute meaningful data.

Advocacy – We work with partners and local decision-makers to promote policies that protect the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.

Want to Get Involved?

Audubon is a national movement dedicated to protecting birds and their habitats. It connects people who care about wildlife and conservation.
